I am a writer and illustrator developing picture books to help children overcome barriers created by their own thoughts, empowering them to work through common thought problems on their own.
I was an anxious child.
But after years of avoidance and searching for solutions outside of myself (diagnoses, therapists, medication), I learned to look inward at my thoughts. When I felt anxious, sad or angry I could find the thought that caused it and deal with it accordingly. I was no longer on a roller-coaster of emotion. The concept is so simple and empowering—replace unhelpful thoughts to move through and heal difficult feelings.
Now my aim is to communicate the power of thought management to children through story-telling. My books will focus on how we change our thinking practically. I want to help children know the power they always have internally even when they don’t have control of what’s happening around them.
My professional history.
I studied graphic design and English in college. After graduating, I spent a year teaching English and yearbook at a private school before finding a graphic design job. I now have more than 10 years of professional graphic design experience. One of my favorite clients, The National Pediatric Cancer Foundation, provided opportunities to hone my illustration skills.
I specialize in lettering and typography—a passion founded in my youth by a love for handwriting, literature and self-expression.
